American Democracy for Sale

Multinational corporations have set out to destroy the American economy.  How are they doing this?  They have invested millions in Republican congressional races all across the United States with the sole purpose of buying our democracy.  The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has recently dropped millions of undisclosed cash into various races, all backing Republican candidates.  What is there agenda?  They seem to be after the minimum wage.  It is my opinion that these multinational corporations wish to destroy the U.S. economy in order to access dirt cheap labor here in the United States.  This is a war, and if the American people do not wake up, we will have a collapsed economy, and no safety net to fall back on.  Here is one example of what is going on in Ohio's 18 district:
Last week, a ThinkProgress investigation revealed that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has been using foreign money to fund its partisan attack ads this election. The very same day, the Chamber endorsed Bob Gibbs (R) in his campaign against Rep. Zack Space (D) in Ohio’s 18th congressional district. Gibbs said it was “an honor” to have the group’s support. In the nine days since, the Chamber has already pumped nearly $30,000 into the race.
http://thinkprogress.org/2010/10/14/gibbs-fec-chamber/
Corporations are coming after our safety net, and they couldn't have planned this at a worse time considering our economic climate.  Most people are most likely oblivious to this, and I worry so much for America and our future.  We cannot continue down this path, we will see utter destruction at the hands of the corporate interests.  There would like to see us revert back to raw capitalism, late 19 century revisited.  If the current rate of wealth concentration keeps at this pace, there will not be a middle class any more.  The truth is we are facing all out class warfare.  We have to take back what is ours before it is too late.  Apathy and lack of knowledge will destroy our democracy.  Wake up America, before it is too late.

Mad Hatter Joe Miller

The New Tea Party has declared war on the minimum wage and the working poor.  If some of these loons take office, this could prove to be devastating for the working poor in the United States. Armed with there very literal and limited interpretation of the Constitution, they are going to attack some very basic principles that we cherish here in the United States.  Most of us are pretty confident our children will not have to work in the factories, however, these Tea Party Patriots want to undo many of our child and labor laws.  Take for instance Joe Miller of Alaska.  He makes outrageous claims that the minimum wage and child labor laws are unconstitutional.  http://voices.washingtonpost.com/plum-line/2010/10/does_joe_miller_think_child_la.html
So for me, this extreme move to the Right is dangerous for our Country.  They teabaggers intend to declare war on bare minimum human decency and use the Constitution as their weapon,  All of this is a clever disguise for true motives.  They want to get into office to get the rich richer, and to maintain the current balance of power.  So the only solution I can offer is for the democratic base to get mobilized against this dangerous trend.  They intend to undermine years of progress we have made toward a more inclusive democracy.  Trust me, they know what they are doing.  They are taking advantage of people's ignorance and fear.  Those type of opportunistic politicians will exploit vulnerabilities as every opportunity.  It shows real cowardice, because children cannot vote, and they look to us for their protection.  Please America, don't let them down.

Carl Paladino Sounds like the Godfather

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJnDWbkZRlw.  More tea party antics for you to enjoy.  What is going on in this country?

She won't Lie to Hilter, but She Lies to the American People.

Christine O'Donnell has proved to be a comical choice for Senator and an embarrassment to the state of Delaware.   Yet another obscure University has claimed they have no record of her attendance.  So, she has just recently been able to prove she has a bachelor's degree http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/29/christine-odonnell-claremont_n_743130.html She made a claim that she attended Princeton, but when actually she audited one undergraduate course and couldn't complete it.
She has also made grand claims that she won 2 counties in the last election against Joe Biden, when in fact she had won nothing.  /watch?v=GeiDHTlJXkM&p=B69206BE3AD94B0A&playnext=1&index=21
Years ago she appeared on Bill Maher's Political Incorrect where she claimed she would not lie to Hitler even if it would save lives.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9qQGvsulFU  She believed that God would make a way for her to do the right thing.  She doesn't understand very simple logic that it would be okay to lie in that situation..  Jesus spoke against moral absolutism when he told the pharisees that he would heal people on the Sabbath Day.  Mark 3 (1-6)
So it is clear that she doesn't even understand her own religion.  It is too complex for her feeble mind to grasp, and yet she is the Republican candidate for Senate.  This is an embarrassment, but it is not untypical of Conservatives to reject intellect and logic, as they do it on a daily basis to maintain their highly  illogical ideology.
So I don't know what to make of this trend.  This conservative movement has totally rejected smarts, intellect, science and reason in replace of radical idiocy .  I hope the citizens of Delaware wake up and elect Democrat candidate Coon to the Senate.  This is a danger trend that has to be reversed, or we are headed for imbecility  and mob rule.

Propagandizing a "Pledge to America."

I suppose the trite statement is true, those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.  So here we go again.  The first midterm after the election of Bill Clinton gave us Newt Gingrich's "Contract with America" in 1994. So conveniently and predictably, we have the same backlash movement today with the Republican's own "Pledge to America."  Supposedly, this pledge was going to come straight from the people, through the website called "America Speaking Out."  What one would infer from this claim is that the things that most Americans wanted to see in the Pledge  would actually be in the document, and thus dictate the New Republican agenda..  However, that was not the case.  Yet the Republicans speak of this "Pledge" as if it came straight from the people.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UTNZofZbLU
Two very popular ideas from the website were for the legalization of marijuana and for the removal of tax breaks for those companies who outsource American jobs.  Well, the later is a great idea, and one the Barack Obama claimed to address as a political candidate, however, let us not be naive, Republicans will never address an issue that will hurt "Big Business."  They have always been on the side of 'Big Business" because they at least know where their bread is buttered.   They may not know much else, but at least they know who's interest they represent in Congress.
The original draft of this pledge was written by a staffer for John Boehner, named Brian Wilde, who was a former lobbyist for the Nichols Group. .  He formerly lobbied for corporations like AIG, Pfizer and Exxon Mobil to name a few.  Now he had drafted the "Pledge to America" as if anything in the document would benefit the average American.  This document is a pure tactical propaganda scheme.  The Republicans are skillful politicians.  The Party of "No" was more of a political strategy than an idealogical or principled stance.
So what I really want is for Americans to wake up.  Please stop allowing these people to manipulate your emotions and think for yourself.  Try to notice when it is your emotional connection to something that has you believing a certain way.  It is difficult to tease out the difference sometimes, America has become ":Sheep lead to a Slaughter.  These people don't represent your interests, and they never will.  They have developed an entire ideology that will justify them giving everything to the Rich people, and all their bidding is for the very Rich.  The average American is just a pawn.  We go through the motions of Democracy every year, but Democracy doesn't work if the people are ill informed and manipulated.

DADT Repealed by Courts.

Despite the current left verses right debates regarding the Constitution, i admire the way our Founding Fathers set up our government.  It seems that it has always been the Courts who have had the courage to stand up for what is right.  I am far left, but I recognize the Constitution as an purposefully adaptable document.  We established a creed that all men are created equal, and we have been trying to live up to that creed for years.  Sometimes, living up to your creed takes courage.  Allowing other people to participate in our American Dream is so threatening for some people.  I see the Tea Baggers as a perfect example of those people who want to put the breaks on the Constitution.  They don't want America to live out its creed too much.  I am sure they will not like the Court's ruling that ruled the military's policy of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." http://maddowblog.msnbc.msn.com/
Even left leaning Barack Obama has yet to show the courage to challenge this obvious unconstitutional policy.  However, the Courts have recently come down on the side of the individual victims of this archaic policy.  I think they lead the way, and I hope the right leaning Supreme Court does not prove hypocritical and overturn this ruling.  When will American have the courage to live out the true meaning of its creed?  We have a long way to go Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but we are going in the right direction.

Tea Party Splinters GOP

Independents lean in a particular direction, whether it be left or right.  Take for instance, Ross Perot.  George H. W. Bush most likely would have won the election against Bill Clinton  had it not been for Ross Perot.  Ross Perot stole votes that most likely would have went to Bush.  Now today we have the example of the Tea Party.  Those who gravitate toward the Tea Party would have usually went Republican, but are now gravitating toward the extreme right Tea Party as a reactionary party.  Just as with George H. W. Bush, the end result could very well hurt the GOP and their chances to take over the House and Senate, rather lofty goals, considering the current political climate. http://motherjones.com/mojo/2010/09/christine-odonnell-castle-delaware-republican-primary
So the end result could be a repeat of the past.  Perhaps these extreme Tea Party goers should be more mindful of their history, which they claim to espouse just in their continual theft of historically significant  symbolism.  And in their theft of our historical tea party, they pervert the meaning and symbolism that the original Tea Party revolutionaries represent. However some Tea party patriots would claim that is it more about sending a message.  http://www.corydondemocrat.com/Articles-i-2009-03-10-210077.114125_Tea_parties_send_clear_message.html  I admire such principles, however, the message will die if they do not turn the message into action by having members of the GOP in office.  Hopefully, and I cannot deny my bias right here, they will sabotage their own convoluted agenda with these Tea Party candidates like Christine O'Donnell who made a strong showing in the primary, but most likely are too weak to win the election.  As a Kentuckian,  I must admit that Rand Paul will most likely win in Kentucky, however, Christine O'Donnell is a weak candidate for general election.  So Tea Party patriots be ware, you are revealing your inability to think.

Freedom from "isms"

As a person who has claimed many different labels in the past, I know from experience, labels hinder critical debate.  The reason is that there is so much baggage that goes with claiming a label.  The person you may wish to debate and exchange free flow of ideas tend to have so many preconceived notions about what you may or may not believe.  I have tried in vain to debate, and most of the time, i am defending or rather denying what they think i believe rather than what I actually believe.  I want people to think.   That is really all i want.  You will have my respect if you think for  yourself and your beliefs are well developed.  You and I may be on the opposite end of the political spectrum, but I love ideas.  I will never stop craving the debate.   So don't take it personal if we disagree, i can still learn from you, and you can learn from me, whether u admit it or not.
So as of right now, I only claim the label of humanist.  That is so vague that surely it will not push anybody away.  It is not so radical, that u may think i am too far gone.  So please, if you think i am wrong in my humanist beliefs come and make a good argument.  I am all ears.  I have not closed my mind.   I will never stop learning and growing.  So ShopGirl, this one is for u, I hope this clears some misunderstanding up between us.  I enjoy the debate.

Racism and the Drug War

The "war on drugs" is as political as it is controversial.  Nothing is more revealing than the discrepancy in sentencing on crack cocaine, verses powder cocaine offenders.  Coincidentially, and yet suspiciously, African Americans are more likely to be caught with crack cocaine.  Thus, he comes the politics.  There is no difference other than who deals that drug, so why is there such a disparity. Thankfully, research and common sense have stepped in to alleviate the discrepancy.  Congress has enacted a bill designed to remedy the racist sentencing practices.  Typically, the users and lower level dealers will have crack cocaine, where http://huff.to/93C46q via @huffingtonpost as the actual suppliers will have powder cocaine.  So it makes no sense to continue this barbaric practice. http://www.drugpolicy.org/communities/race/

Thomas Jefferson on Public Education

Oh my God, are we going to have to go back to the basics?  I mean these People who go around toting their Constitution do not understand anything about it.  I just finished arguing with a "teabagger" and this person wanted to abolish the department of Education.  Okay, the Constitution allows for the United States to take interest in educating the electorate.  Thomas Jefferson was a passionate advocate for publicly funded education.  He believed it to be the cornerstone of a republic.  I agree with Thomas Jefferson.  Thomas Jefferson is one of my favorite founding fathers.  He actually understood that capitalism could become as tyrannical as the Queen of England.  If  you don't believe me, which I doubt you do, go check out this article about his views on Education. http://etext.virginia.edu/jefferson/quotations/jeff1370.htm
Now, after you have read this, actually have read what Thomas Jefferson actually believed, stop repeating Reaganomics, it is just not consistent with the Constitution at all.  I just want people to think.  You may not agree with my politics, but I know how I have reached my conclusions.  I am informed about the issues.  You cannot make decisions based on what Glenn Beck says.  Think for yourself please.  You will have my respect even if we don't agree,

Glenn Beck's Revisionist History Lesson

Glenn Beck has done it again. Either he is totally clueless, or he just doesn't give a damn about anything remotely close to the truth.  Martin Luther King was not a conservative.  Politically, Martin Luther King was as far left as one could go.  He made the statement that we need to totally restructure society as to assure the negro and poor whites have a chance at the American Dream.:lhttp://www.hartford-hwp.com/archives/45a/629.html.  So check out this article and please do not listen to Glenn Beck.  He is a total fraud and I want to expose him, as do millions of other people.

Tea Bagger Condundrum

Nothing would anger your average Tea Bagger like logic and consistency.  The Tea Baggers are infamous for waving the Constitution and evoking its power in order to advance their agenda.  It doesn't always work for them, especially since freedom of religion, contained within the First Amendment would necessarily apply to Muslims in their efforts to build the Mosque near ground zero. Now, I reluctantly agree with them.  I think it is in poor taste for a Mosque to be built so close to ground zero. However, I don't go around wearing the  Constitution on my lhttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/08/18/ground-zero-mosque-debate_n_686001.htm sleeve, espousing it like a sacred text, as do Tea Baggers and the whole Tea Party movement.
So the recogniton of hypocrisy is obviously not their strong suit.  These little inconsistencies take away from the validity of their movement.  Is the tea party movement based on principal, or archaic "us verses them" fear? I would argue the latter fuels it, and the Constitution is their weapon of choice.,  Those who live by the sword die by it and sometimes a weapon backfires.

Gibb's awkward move to the "right."

Apparently, Robert Gibbs hasn't noticed the Obama Administration's move to the right.  Well, guess what, the left has noticed.  The left elected Obama, and yes, they are getting frustrated.  Actually, they are pissed!
The idealism of the past election has evolved into a cynicism brought on by the reality of politics.
Our democracy is set up to make sure that progress is slow and gradual.  Every time the Left makes some political gains, the very rich and the Right fire back with all of their arsenal ..  All their money is then invested to buy back the election with their huge propaganda machine at work.
Now, for all of the skeptics out there that naively believe that we can change our society peacefully needs to wake up.  Now I understand Hugo Chavez. I am sorry to say it, but I do.

Michele Bachmann speaks for the "People." I think not!

I have a bone to pick with Michele Bachmann.  Of course, I am tired of her ignorant ranting, but it is more than that.  She claims to speak for the "people" quite often.  This enrages me.  She had not a clue what the people actually think of her.  She is an ill informed idiot.  She mocks the feminist movement with her every word.  She is a religious zealot who probably has not had an original thought of her own in her entire life.  Despite all of that, she is a congresswoman.

I want to Make Sure Rand Paul does not Get Elected

I am from Kentucky, but I am not sure how I am going to do this.  The national spotlight has not been kind to this imbecile, who is running for Senator of Kentucky.  Dr. Rand Paul has extreme right wing views.  He is against some of the basic tenets of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.  He believes businesses should be able to do whatever they want.  He is a so called "libertarian" from the right of course.  He could be dangerous if he gets elected.
As I drive down the road, his election signs are all that I see.  I couldn't even tell you who he is running against.  The media has done well to attack his outlandish political views, however, by doing so they give his name recognition.
So the plan is simple.  Let us give his opponent, who ever he is, some national attention.  Perhaps MSNBC could do a segment on his opponent, highlighting his views as opposed to Rand Paul's insanity.  Hopefully, the voters will be able to make the logical reasonable choice.
Okay, his name is John Conway, and I don't really care what he stands for, he has to be a better choice than extremist Rand Paul.  I mean, he is a Democrat.  So please, i beg of you, as a resident of Kentucky and a leftist, please let us do whatever is necessary to stop Rand Paul.

Pull "health care bill" off life support! It's dead!

Okay, go ahead and put the nails in the coffin, it is over.  The dream is over.  The health care bill took it's final breath win Massachusetts elected a Republican named Scott Brown.  She was barely hanging on, and now, well now she is dead.  We couldn't get it done with a 60 vote majority, now , we will not pass health care.  Once again, the dream has died.  Kennedy has rolled over in his grave. They probably will bury his dream beside him.   But what went so wrong?
First of all, when I say "we", I mean that loosely.  I mean we the "Left" even though I am way further to the left of most of the Senate.  I align myself with the Democrats only out of necessity, and likewise I share their disdain for the Republican party.  That does not mean I agree with all, or even most of their policies.  I think that liberals can be weak at times.  They need to get a backbone.  They need the kind of solidarity that the Republicans have.  If the Republicans had those numbers, I mean a 60 vote majority, Goodness, they could destroy our country.  Why couldn't the Democrats use that same majority to save us?
I actuality, Scott Brown, could very well be to the left of some of our conservative democrats.  But it is what his election represents symbolically that has deeply disturbed the left.  I do believe it is a referendum against the left agenda.  And Obama.  For the most left leaning state to elect a republican to Senate when the Left desperately needed that seat , speaks volumes of where the county is right now.  The United States is moving to the right, and I think I know why.
Any time we make a little progress toward social justice, those in power get so scared.  They mobilize, and they go after the middle, the independent voter hard.  Independent votes are not idealogues and are often easily swayed.  Those in power have the money and resources to do this.  This is why change ain't easy.  Progressive steps are harder.  They are like climbing a steep hill.  Where as regressive steps are like falling.  It is so easy to fall back.  The familiar is comfortable to people.  Change and progress threaten alot of people.
So, we have missed a great opportunity to make some health care reform.  It is not looking like it is going to happen now.  I wish that it would.  Personally, this new bill is a joke anyway.  But at least it would have been something, something that would keep the Democrats alive another day, to fight.  Now they will have very little to take to their constituents.  It is highly likely we will see massive losses in the fall.  I am going to cry.  I need to call my therapist.  I need some grief therapy.  Help!

The Left year in Review

As a progressive, I have observed that many times, a few progressive steps forward are met my several steps backward.  This was true of 2009.  The Left made some signifigant gains, but these gains were undermined by the backlash from the Right.  From my point of view, i am trying to recap this year from the left, and to evaluate whether or not the progressives actually made gains politically.  Now , I dont just mean  seats in the House and Senate.  I am talking about globally, did the Left have a good year?
Barack Obama did win the White House.  This was a major accomplishment for progressives as he is a the first black president and he is, or he was far left.  This is a step forward if not met by a right wing tea bagger reaction.

He has made some efforts to pull out of Iraq, but that was offset by his increased occupation in Aftganistan.  He promised health care reform, but many on the left think that his health care overhaul has been a dismal failure.  But I suppose it was better than nothing.  I guess.  So, some of us on the Left had high hopes, only to get them dashed with reality.  Progress comes slowly, as we have to fight those in power for every little concession.  Plus, they have the money to fight us, and money often wins.  This is the cold hard, sad truth.  So many times when i see a political movement to the left, a revolution if you will, i get excited!  I think, well, the human revolutionary spirit is alive and kicking again. Then, power and money see this as a threat.  They sink their money into it, and often buy back the revolution.  If the United Fruit company can buy a CIA hack to stave off a revolution that might hurt his interest, then he is going to do it.
So this is why I am a cynic.  This is why I have little faith in the political process.  I believe in Revolution.  I believe in the human spirit.  I believe that humanity will eventually wise up!  But i am getting impatient.
Overall, I will say that the left made some progress, but not a whole heck of alot.  Now, I have this lingering fear that the backlash is coming, and so do the pundits.  So, are we going to take some steps back in 2010.  Yeah probably! So am i going to bitch and moan, or do I have  a solution? Yeah, I got one.
What fuels the left progressive movements?  Ideas, dreams, visions.  What fuels the right and a contra -revolution?  Ahh, okay so it is money.   The left is going to have to start fighting fire with fire.  But I dont mean sell out.  I mean stay true to your leftist idealogy, but keep your eyes on the prize.  I am a materialist, I know what makes the world go around.  We must get money, so we can have access to everything the Right has.  We cannot win this war for social and economic justice without it.
So that is my plan.  What is yours?
